SJII Key Club Kiwanis One Day Event at Willing Hearts

As our Key Clubs are part of the larger international Kiwanis family, our SJII Key Club participated in the global service event, Kiwanis One Day 2017, an event where Key Clubs all over the world join together in a day of service on the fourth Saturday of October.

As a club, SJII started brainstorming potential service partners who were open to having their entire club of around 25 people help serve on Kiwanis One Day. Their final choice was Willing Hearts, a volunteer-run and non-profit soup kitchen that provides about 5,000 meals daily to over 40 locations in Singapore all year round.

During the Sunday itself, our SJII Key Club members arrived at around 11:30 AM and started helping prepare the ingredients for Willing Hearts by 12 PM. In the beginning, our young members were a little confused as there wasn’t enough staff to teach them exactly what to do and how to do it. But, as a team, our members learned from one other, passing on their newly acquired knowledge to each other on how to cut the vegetables the way Willing Hearts wanted it prepared and by the time they knew it, they were getting into the groove of things. Peeling, washing, grinding carrots, chopping, peeling, and even arranging Japanese Greens!

It is tough work preparing meals for so many people, and our SJII Key Club members can now fully grasp the hard work behind a simple meal, and it is a meal that can mean so much to the recipients. They have definitely contributed meaningfully since the kitchen needed as much help as they could get in preparing the ingredients for their large scale operations. By the time our members finished their two and a half hours of service for Kiwanis One Day, the members of the club certainly grew closer and stronger. Their executive committee hopes to continue this event for the years
to come!

Kiwanis Singapore Fund Raising Dinner

On the 25th August 2017, we had a fund raising dinner event to help us raise the funds for our various projects and activities. It is an important event to help keep projects like our STAR programme going.

Words cannot describe how grateful we are by the generosity and support that we have received, and we hereby thank everyone for your support for our club, and the cause that we represent.

It was a night filled with wonderful performances by our student volunteers, who have all worked hard to practice despite their busy school schedules.

Thanks to our student volunteers, the night was filled with the joy of their songs and dances, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed!

The other highlight of the night was the presence of 2 very talented artists, Hanzhen and Tung Seng, who through their artwork, showed the amazing passion and dedication they have for work.

All in all, we would like to thank everyone for your support once again, for making this a successful event And we do look forward to your continued support and encouragement for our work in serving the children of the world.

CHIJ Key Club Annual Installation

On the 30th of June, the CHIJ Key Club held its annual Installation of the new committee members. This was a meaningful event for Key Club, owing to the fact that this event solidified the Teachers’ and members’ faith in the new committee.

Guests included members of the Kiwanis and SJII Key Club. Performances were put up by the past and current committee members, livening up the Friday afternoon. Moreover, light refreshments were graciously provided by Kiwanians Siok Loon and Cheng Chong.

STAR Programme Participants’ Debut!

Our pioneer batch of STAR Programme participants made their debut with their first ever live performance at the Choice Family Singapore’s 5th Anniversary Charity Dinner!

For sure our performers were nervous at the beginning, but they soon conquered their stage fright and had loads of fun with songs and dances that had everyone attending the dinner up in applause!

Definitely more to come from our very first batch of STARs! Stay tuned!

Kiwanis STAR Programme 2017

At the beginning of the year 2017, the Kiwanis Club of Singapore (Delta Chapter), initiated our new flagship programme, named the Kiwanis Star Programme.

We believe that every child who has undeveloped talent in musical art should be given a chance to nurture his talent through proper training. And one such training approach is to put children with such a talent in a training programme that prepares them towards an audition for a performance in a musical theatre.

Therefore, in partnership with One Heart One Voice led by Ms Irene Jansen, who will be providing the training, we, the Kiwanis Club of Singapore (Delta Chapter) will be funding each child who lacks the financial resources to join this programme.

In the programme, the children will learn to sing, dance and act, which will in turn help them to gain confidence, leadership and learn more about team work to allow them to soar to greater heights!

Stay tuned for more updates and performance highlights from our first batch of Kiwanis Star Programme Graduates!
