CHIJ Key Club Project – Save the Pen!

During the post-exam period, the CHIJ Key Club organised a campaign, Save That Pen! Where students donated their used/unused pens for the Key Club members to fix up by replacing some parts or refilling the pens to make them useable again. The useable pens were then sent to Vietnam for the Mission trip to use while the unuseable pens were disassembled and recycled.

As students themselves, this was a meaningful project as their actions meant they helped facilitate the learning of the children in Vietnam. Furthermore, involving the student body of CHIJ was an enriching experience for the members
of the Key Club.

SJII Key Club Kiwanis One Day Event at Willing Hearts

As our Key Clubs are part of the larger international Kiwanis family, our SJII Key Club participated in the global service event, Kiwanis One Day 2017, an event where Key Clubs all over the world join together in a day of service on the fourth Saturday of October.

As a club, SJII started brainstorming potential service partners who were open to having their entire club of around 25 people help serve on Kiwanis One Day. Their final choice was Willing Hearts, a volunteer-run and non-profit soup kitchen that provides about 5,000 meals daily to over 40 locations in Singapore all year round.

During the Sunday itself, our SJII Key Club members arrived at around 11:30 AM and started helping prepare the ingredients for Willing Hearts by 12 PM. In the beginning, our young members were a little confused as there wasn’t enough staff to teach them exactly what to do and how to do it. But, as a team, our members learned from one other, passing on their newly acquired knowledge to each other on how to cut the vegetables the way Willing Hearts wanted it prepared and by the time they knew it, they were getting into the groove of things. Peeling, washing, grinding carrots, chopping, peeling, and even arranging Japanese Greens!

It is tough work preparing meals for so many people, and our SJII Key Club members can now fully grasp the hard work behind a simple meal, and it is a meal that can mean so much to the recipients. They have definitely contributed meaningfully since the kitchen needed as much help as they could get in preparing the ingredients for their large scale operations. By the time our members finished their two and a half hours of service for Kiwanis One Day, the members of the club certainly grew closer and stronger. Their executive committee hopes to continue this event for the years
to come!

CHIJ Key Club Annual Installation

On the 30th of June, the CHIJ Key Club held its annual Installation of the new committee members. This was a meaningful event for Key Club, owing to the fact that this event solidified the Teachers’ and members’ faith in the new committee.

Kiwanis K-Clubbers Convention 2016

As we draw down to a close the year 2016, our Key Clubbers from SJII, CHIJ and North Vista, as well as our K-Kids from Ang Mo Kio Primary School, came together for a convention on the 26th November 2016, where they are given the platform to showcase their good work in the community projects that they have engaged in for the past year. It also provides an opportunity for them to develop talents, make new friends, and have fun with students who share similar beliefs.

We even had an overseas club, Circle-K of HELP from Malaysia that came down to join us for the convention!

With esteemed speaker Mr. Jimmy Ong anchoring the first half of the convention, our students were able to learn from his valuable experiences, learnings and breakthroughs!

Through games, group discussions, ideas sharing and reflections, our student have learn that they can be ready for anything!

The convention was a resounding success with our participants all raring to step up and make a difference!

SJII Key Club Community Project 2016/2017: Alphajoy Weekly Service

Started since November 2016, our SJII Key Club has been sending teams of student volunteers, who travel to Alphajoy in Bishan every Thursday to engage the students there in various activities! Each week holds a different challenge for the students, where students from different levels pit against each other in a competition of fun and games to see who can win the most amount of points. Not just limited to fun and play, our SJII student volunteers also help out the children with their homework.

This amazing weekly initiative by our SJII Key Club keeps us all reminded of our mission serving the children of the world, where showing our love to them is to show ourselves as humans with the ability to feel compassion and care for one another!
